THRUST TO IMMUNE SYSTEM : COVID-19

An Immune System present in Human body plays a key role in defense mechanism. Immune system is a complex network of cells and proteins that fights against disease-causing germs like bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi and removes them from body. The existing pandemic, Covid-19, which is a severe respiratory illness caused by Corona virus. This virus goes deeper making lungs inflamed, and causes breathing problems. As Corona virus is highly contagious, directly or indirectly affects the Immune system. To strengthen this immune system certain foods can help the body’s first line of defense against infection. Some essentials vitamins cannot be produced by the body, So it is important that they are consumed as a part of our daily diet. One of such vitamins is Vitamin-C.


Vitamin-C, a water-soluble vitamin is also known as Ascorbic Acid. Vitamin-C is a essential nutrient involved in the repair of tissue and helping to protect cells to keep them healthy. Vitamin C has received a great deal of attention due to its health benefits. Deficiency of this vitamin is linked to many health problems like Scurvy (a condition characterized by weakness), Fatigue, Anemia, shortness of breath, poor wound healing, mood changes, depression and mainly poor immunity, bleeding gums and tooth loss too. Vitamin-C can help

improve your Immune System. It helps build up immune system by strengthening your T-cells.


The health benefits of Vitamin C include:

• It can help you look younger by supporting the production of collagen that improves the

look of your skin.

• It helps maintain healthy blood vessels, bones and cartilage.

• It can also help with wound healing.

• It supports normal growth and development and helps your body absorb iron.


Even though Vitamin-C has lots of benefits, it is recommended daily amounts of vitamin C vary by age and gender. As per the National Institutes of Health, the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) for vitamin C are as follows:


Some food sources are rich in vitamin C, They are Oranges, Grape fruits, Strawberries,Kiwis, Spinach, Potatoes etc., Therefore, Vitamin C is an essential nutrient you need to stay healthy. However, No supplement, including Vitamin C, can prevent or treat Covid-19, But, Vitamin-C can help boost Immunity and be beneficial towards any viruses or diseases.
